The golden bears (3-3-0) broke a scoreless streak with a 3-0 shutout win over the huskies (1-2-0). lauren nelson scored her first collegiate goal in the game, while keyton wheelock stopped all five scsu shots for the win. The golden bears play another non-conference game at winona state this friday.
concordia notched one first half goal to lead 1-0 at the intermission. emily weimelt took a slip pass from taylor campione to break the 0-0 knot just before the 25 minute mark. It ended a stalemate between the golden bears and huskies, who combined for only two shots on goal in the first half.
while her first score would be enough to end the game, weimelt added some cushion early in the second half with her second goal of the day and sixth score of the year. the huskies put up a good battle throughout the matchup, forcing the golden bears to stay on top of their game for the entire 90 minutes. Scsu threatened in front of cu's net a number of times in the final 15 minutes, but they were unable to catch a break to get on the board.
overall, st. Cloud out-shot the golden bears 21-14, with 13 shots coming in the first half. Concordia had a slight shooting edge in the second half with 11 shots. keyton wheelock played a tight game with five saves in the shutout. She improves to 2-2 on the season.
