The concordia men's basketball team (13-9, 7-6 nsic) turned a close first half into a 86-59 runaway win over the university of mary (6-17, 3-11 nsic) with a strong second half shooting performance from three point range. The bears were only 2-11 in the first half from beyond the arc, but 9-12 in the second half to finish with a season-high 11 three pointers.

james metcalf (killeen, tx) led the golden bears attack in the first half with 14 points on a near perfect half, making 6-7 from the field, including 2-3 from three point range.
after four lead changes and three ties in the first 14-minutes of play, freshman
drew votis (peshtigo, wi) gave the golden bears a 23-22 lead with 6:06 to play that they would not relinquish.
metcalf scored six straight, followed by a pair of free throws by sophomore
craig heiman (marshall, wi) to extend the golden bears lead to 32-24. After a marauder field goal, metcalf added a three pointer and a field goal by heiman gave the golden bears a 37-28 halftime lead.
heiman finished the first half with ten points on 3-6 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line.
the golden bears caught fire in the second half making 17-29 from the field and the 9-12 from three point range. They were also 6-6 from the free throw line in the second period.
concordia extended their lead to as many as 28 in the second half at 81-53 with 2:08 left in the game.
the golden bears bench scored 33 points on the night, led by freshman
andrew kuderer (eden prairie, mn), who scored a career-high 15 points, with 13 coming in the second half. He was 5-8 from the field, 3-5 from beyond the arc and 2-2 from the free throw line.
the golden bears were led by metcalf with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Heiman added 15 points and votis (left) finished the night with nine points and a career-high seven rebounds.
freshman
matt hackl (seymour, wi) also posted a career-high with nine points on 3-5 from the field and 3-4 from three point range.
on the night, concordia shot 31-58 (53.4%) from the field and a season-high 13-14 (92.9%) from the charity stripe.
the golden bears outrebounded the marauders 31-27 and converted 16 marauder turnovers into 20 points.
the university of mary was led by eric erdmann and danny sandvig with ten points each. Erdmann also had seven rebounds to pace the team.
the marauders shot 27-56 (48.2%) on the night, but were an abysmal 0-12 from three point range. They were 5-6 (83.3%) from the free throw line.
concordia has now won three straight nsic games and will host #8 northern state tomorrow night at 8:00 in the gangelhoff center.
