Lund powers golden bears in victory

Senior guard kelly lund (new brighton, minn.) couldn't miss for #5 concordia university (21-1, 12-1 nsic) in an 85-56 victory over the university of mary (13-9, 8-6 nsic) on friday evening at the gangelhoff center. Lund poured in 23 points on 8-10 shooting, hitting 6-7 at the line in only 19 minutes of action.

the win at the gangelhoff center is concordia's 21st consecutive home win as well.

concordia jumped out to a commanding 48-30 first half lead as junior forward candace olstad (elgin, minn.) hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer off of a pass from senior point guard katie laviolette (manitowoc, wis.). C.olstad scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half. She finished 5-6 from the floor and a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc.

c.olstad also had three blocked shots of concordia's nine team blocks. Senior center amanda behnke (eagan, minn.) also had three rejections. Concordia had seven of their blocks before in the intermission.

laviolette (right) returned to double-double status with 11 points and 12 assists. The 12 assists put her over the 700 mark for her career, currently with 702. She also had five rebounds and two steals, committing just two turnovers to solidify her national lead in assist-turnover ratio.

in the first half, concordia shot 68.0% (17-25) behind lund and c.olstad's hot hands while behnke also scored all eight of her points in the first half, shooting 3-4 from the floor. The golden bears also canned six of their eight three-pointers in the first half, on their way to 10-17 from three-point range.

the golden bears led by as much as 32 in the second half before finishing with a 29 point victory.

sophomore guard kali olstad (elgin, minn.), drained three three-pointers in five attempts off the bench.

the concordia defense was solid, limiting the marauders to just one three-pointer in 11 attempts (9.1%) and 32.8% (19-58) shooting from the field.

u-mary had two players in double-figures, anna skala with 12 points and nine rebounds along with nicci landdeck with 10 points and six rebounds.

concordia forced 20 marauder turnovers leading to a 22-10 differential in points off turnovers.

there was just one lead change and three ties - all in the first few minutes of the game.

concordia continues to defend their home winning streak tomorrow evening when they host northern state at 6 p.m.
