Bears earn pair of wins in st. Cloud

The concordia softball team (3-1) earned a pair of wins on day two of the husky classic at the scsu dome with a 6-3 win over north dakota (4-4) and a 2-1 win over st. Cloud state (4-2).

junior jenny kaminski (columbia heights, mn) earned her second win of the season pitching a six-hit complete game allowing three runs, two earned. She had four strikeouts and only two walks.

senior mallory olson (stillwater, mn) provided much of the golden bears offense with a three run home run in the sixth inning as concordia put up five runs on four hits in the inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit.

the golden bears offense put up 13 hits in the game with sophomore tiffani rodd (cloquet, mn) leading the way, going 3-4 with a double and a rbi. natalie mast (jr., oakdale, mn), anna bjorlin (so., hermantown, mn) and nikki scherr (so., stewartville, mn) each had two hits in the game.

concordia managed just four hits in the game, but was able to manufacture two runs, enough for freshman stephanie schmikla (madison, wi) to earn her first collegiate win over st. Cloud state.

in the second inning mallory olson earned a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single by freshman sami mattson (esko, mn). Olson would score on a single by josey olson (so., columbia heights, mn).

in the fifth inning, scherr reached on a fielders choice, stole second base and reached third on a passed ball. She would score on a single by nicole tischler (sr., st. Paul, mn).

schmikla gave up a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning, but the huskies would get no more. Schmikla allowed just the one run on three hits with two strikeouts.

weekend notes - tifanni rodd was 6-12 (.500) with two doubles, a home run and three rbi on the weekend. She had a .917 slugging percentage.

the concordia offense hit .280 on the weekend, while opponents were held to .175.

concordia was 8-11 in stolen base attempts, led by natalie mast (3-3).

the golden bears had 7 sacrifice hits, with molly lenzi and josey olson each having two.

concordia will be in action feb. 24 thru feb. 29 in fort myers, florida.
