Heiman carries concordia past winona state for first time in cu history

winona, minn. - junior forward craig heiman (marshall, wis.) couldn't be stopped as he poured in 25 points to lead concordia university (3-4, 2-0 nsic) to a 75-74 victory at #16 winona state (4-4, 0-2 nsic) on saturday evening at mccown gymnasium. heiman scored his 25 points the hard way, usually a deadly three-point shooter, heiman did all of his damage inside the arc, shooting 10-17 from the floor.

the game featured seven ties and 13 lead changes but it was in the paint that made the difference.

concordia outscored wsu 56-26 in the paint in the narrow victory.

senior guard matt cadwell was the only player in double-figures with 15 points.

the point guard combination of sammy ricks and mike cunningham produced 10 total assists, dishing out five apiece.

winona state had four players in double-figures led by curtrel robinson with 19. Ben fischer, who nearly dropped in a triple double last night, had 13 points and 10 assists with six rebounds. Travis whipple added eight assists for winona state.

concordia will defend their perfect nsic record next weekend when they return home to face minnesota, crookston and msu moorhead next friday and saturday evening at the gangelhoff center.
