Overtime troubles return for Golden Bears

crookston, minn. - overtime woes returned for the concordia soccer team this afternoon in a meeting with the golden eagles in crookston, minn. For the second time this season, the golden bears lost a decision in the final minute of the second overtime period, this time as a result of a penalty kick. Minnesota, crookston won their first nsic game with the 2-1 win (2-8-1, 1-5-0 nsic) while the golden bears fall to 5-8-0 and 2-4-0 in league play.

the golden eagles attacked first with a goal at the 38:43 mark of the game. Kelsey palmer put her team up 1-0 on an unassisted goal. Concordia out-shot umc 8-1 in the second period and sent the game into overtime with an emily weimelt goal at the 80:18 mark. Weimelt was assisted by savannah nolen for her eighth goal of the season. Nolen leads the team with five assists.

the golden bears took one shot through the two overtime periods but were unable to fire anything on-goal. Hannah turgerson saved a ball to keep the time rolling toward a tie in the first round of overtime, but the golden eagles took advantage of a penalty kick down the stretch to give the game a decision. Justine jones won the game for the team at the 109:13 mark.

concordia had nine shots on goal in the game, while minnesota, crookston had five. The golden bears out-shot their opponent 16 to 9 throughout the lengthy match, but were unable to pull out the win. kari janes was the team's leading shot taker with six. She put a set on-goal. Turgerson made three saves.
