st. Paul, minn. - the golden bears won the battle of the predators on friday evening, downing the wolves of northern state, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-8). Concordia dominated both offensively and defensively to extend their program-high consecutive winning streak to 24 games (24-1, 13-0 nsic).
the #1 golden bears will be hosting the university of mary in a “dig for the cure� evening tomorrow at 5:00 pm. Fans will be able to make a pledge for every dig in the match, with proceeds benefitting the susan g. Komen for the cure foundation.
whitney meierotto and emily palkert put down 13 kills each and combined for just three errors in the match with the wolves. They guided the team to 50 kills and a .400 hitting average, their highest average since they posted a season high .467 a month ago. maria steinhagen also went into double figures with 10 kills.
the golden bears had control of the match from the outset, only trailing after the first point. They put together multiple streaks of five or more points and finished the match with a 25-8 third set win, the largest single set win of the season.
northern state (13-10, 4-9 nsic) committed 17 attacking errors and put down only 19 kills. They had a .021 hitting average. Caitlin oelke had the highest kill mark on the wolves side of the court with five. Melanie perez led the squad with six digs.
concordia’s defense was led by mary slinger with 17 digs. Meierotto had 11 digs, which combined with her 13 kills for her eighth double double of the season. Steinhagen continues to play strong at the net and had four blocks in the match (1s, 3a). maggie mcnamara had 44 assists.
