Concordia senior hillary johnson scored a goal and had an assist as the bears defeated southwest minnesota state 2-0 in marshall on saturday.

the bears and mustangs played a scoreless first half as southwest minnesota outshot concordia 13-4 in the first half, but only put two shots on net. keyton wheelock earned her third shutout of the year stopping five shots in the first and eight for the game.

johnson put the bears up 1-0 in the 54th minute when she was able to get behind the defense and put the ball in the back of the net from the top of the box. It was her second goal of the season. Assists went to kendra benson and taylor campione, the first points of their career for both.

with the game tight late, kari janes was able to score the first goal of her career in the 82nd minute when johnson was able to steal the ball from the mustangs at the top of the box and finding janes, giving the bears a 2-0 lead.

for the game, each team put eight shots on goal, with smsu outshooting the bears 18-13 in the game. H. Johnson led csp with six shots, with a goal and an assist. Janes finished with five shots, four on goal and a goal.

the bears improve to 2-5-2 and will face minnesota state on sept. 21 in mankato at 4:00.
