Matt borman, jessica lucia named cu athletes of year
The concordia coaches have named baseball player matt borman and jessica lucia from the volleyball team as it's athletes of the year for the 2006-07 academic year. Both players earned all-america status in their prospective sports, while lucia was the nsic player of the year and borman was the nsic pitcher of the year.

borman, from minnetonka, minn., was a daktroniks first team all-american and second-team all-american as a utility player by the national collegiate baseball writers of america (ncbwa). He was also the nsic pitcher of the year while being named all-nsic first team at two positions (p/of).

borman hit a school record 14 home runs, giving him a school-record 33 for his career. He also recorded school records in hits (64), runs (61) and rbi (58). He hit .413 (64-155) at the plate with a .768 slugging pct. And a .500 on base pct. On the mound, the left-handed ace compiled a 7-2 record while pitching 54.0 innings with two complete games and a 4.00 era. He held opposing batters to a .233 average and allowed just one home run in 202 opponent at bats. He struck out 35 and walked 18 while allowing 47 hits.

lucia, a 5-9 right side/opposite hitter, from plymouth, minn., led concordia to four straight nsic regular-season titles and four consecutive ncaa north central region title games. She is the school's only two-time avca first-team all-america honoree and was also a two-time academic all-american. In 2006, she became the first concordia athlete to earn first-team academic all-america honors.

lucia averaged 4.88 kills per game, good for eighth in ncaa division ii, and added 3.21 digs this season for the golden bears. Lucia is the only player in school history to accumulate both 1,500 kills (1647) and 1,500 (1542) digs for a career. She is a two-time nsic and the daktroniks north central region player of the year.
