kyle marxhausen poured in 27 points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes to propel concordia university (21-7) to a 77-61 win over wayne state (15-13) in the first round of the nsic red baron men's basketball classic at the gangelhoff center. It was the first-ever home postseason game for the golden bears since joining the northern sun in the 1999-2000 season.
the win for the golden bears gives them a new school record, breaking their 1993-94 record when they went 20-8 and won the upper midwest athletic conference (umac) under former head coach dennis getzlaff.
marxhausen was the only golden bear to reach double-figures in the game, he finished 10-19 from the floor and 5-7 from three-point range.

james metcalf came off the bench with nine points on 4-5 shooting. He also had three assists, two rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes.

down low, the bears used a team effort in the win as senior
marlon walker had a team-high eight rebounds while adding four points and three assists. Junior
chuol chany scored seven points while grabbing four rebounds (three offensive) and piling up three blocked shots in just 16 minutes.
as a team, concordia shot 47.0% (31-66) for the contest including a solid 56.3% (18-32) second half effort. They buried nine three-pointers at a 47.4% clip in 19 chances while holding the wildcats to just five three's and a 31.3% in 16 attempts.
concordia also won the rebounding war with a 38-32 margin.
concordia forced 15 wayne state turnovers while committing just nine, leading to a 20-4 advantage in points off turnovers. Concordia's bench also outscored wayne's 25-9 in the victory.
concordia advances to the nsic red baron men's basketball classic semifinals for the second time in school history where they will take on tournament host, the top seed #1 winona state - the same matchup they had in the 2004-05 season.
earlier this season, the bears lost 86-83 in overtime at winona. They will attempt to stop wsu's 50 game winning streak, currently two wins shy of the ncaa division ii record.
