The concordia softball team rebounded from a pair of season opening losses with a pair of wins on the second day of the husky open at st. Cloud state, shutting out pittsburg state 2-0 before a 10-2 win over northern state on sunday in st. Cloud, minn.
in the first game, the bears cruised to a 2-0 win behind the arm of starting pitcher
mandy turba's complete game shutout. In seven innings, turba allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out seven.
concordia's offense was led by
abby brundidge, who went 2-3 with a solo home run while scoring both golden bear runs. She was knocked in by a
josey olson single as well.
concordia only had two other hits in the game (five total), as
amanda yurek and
melissa bergdall each added singles.
in game two, bergdall powered the bears with a 4-5, four rbi performance to help
jenny kaminski earn her first collegiate victory.
kaminski finished with a complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with no walks and one strikeouts.
freshman
tiffany rodd finished 3-3 with an rbi, while
mallory olson was 1-5 with a run and three rbi. Freshman
anna bjorlin was 2-4 with two runs and an rbi out of the leadoff spot and sophomore natalie mast was 2-3 with three runs.
the bears conclude their opening weekend of the 2007 season with a 2-2 mark at the husky dome. They return to action when they head out to their florida trip where they have 10 games scheduled from feb. 25 to mar. 2.
