The concordia men's basketball team (7-4) dropped a 72-66 non-conference decision to augustana college (9-3) at the gangelhoff center thursday night.
sophomore
craig heiman (marshall, wi) paced the concordia offense with a career-high 31 points, with 18 coming in the second half. Late in the game heiman scored seven straight golden bear points to cut the augustana lead from nine points to five points twice at 64-59 and 67-62, but that would be as close as concordia would get.
during the first half the two teams exchanged the lead seven times and were tied four times with the golden bears holding their largest lead at 13-9 with 10:26 to play, while augustana broke a 26-26 tie with a 6-0 run to end the first half and take a 32-26 point lead into the lockerroom.
the vikings extended the lead to 10 at 44-34 (16:07) and again at 61-51 (5:20).
augustana controlled the boards, outrebounding concordia 43-33 with senior
chuol chany (des moines, ia) leading the golden bears with seven rebounds. Freshman center
drew votis (pictured right) had five along with three blocked shots and three points.
heiman finished the night shooting 9-22 from the field, including 5-12 from beyond the arc and 8-9 from the free throw line.

matt cadwell (st. Paul, mn) also scored in double-figures for cu with 12 points on 5-13 shooting, while only 1-6 from three point range and 1-2 from the free throw line.

james metcalf (killeen, tx) added eight points, five rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assists, while
mike cunningham contributed five rebounds, four assists, two points and two steals.
augustana had eleven players score and outscored the concordia 24-10 off the bench. They were led by corey mcintosh with 15 points, while david foster added 14 and matt klepatz 11.
on the night, concordia shot 21-61 (34.4%) from the floor, while augustana was 23-55 (48.0%). The golden bears were 7-26 (26.9) from three point range and converted 17-22 (77.3%) from the charity stripe. Augustana was 5-10 from three and 21-28 (.750) from the free throw line.
concordia will return to action after the christmas break when they host #12 st. Cloud state at 7:00 on sunday, dec. 30th in the gangelhoff center.
