Concordia cruises to 89-64 win over msu moorhead; behnke joins cu's 1,000 point club

The concordia women's team improved to 5-0 (1-0 nsic) with an impressive 89-64 win over msu moorhead in the nsic opener for both schools. Senior amanda behnke (eagan, mn) became the 20th player in school history to score 1,000 career points with a layup at 18:54 of the first half. She now has 1,020 career points at concordia and 1,194 with her freshman year at winthrop.

the golden bears took the lead 7-6 with 16:59 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Concordia led by as many as 32 in the second half as five players scored in double-figures and the team shot an impressive 52.6% (30-57) from the field, including 9-17 (52.9%) from beyond the arc.

the scoring effort was lead by behnke with 21 points, followed by senior guard katie laviolette (manitowoc, wi) who dropped in 15 points while dishing out 7 assists.

candace and kali olstad (elgin, mn) combined for 25 points scoring 13 and 12 repectively. C. Olstad shot 5-6 from the field, shooting a perfect 2-2 from the arc and 1-2 from the free throw line, while k. Olstad went 4-5 from the field connecting on 3-4 from the arc and shooting 1-2 from the stripe. Candace also finished with a game-high eight rebounds.

also scoring in double digits was whitney smetana (sr., merrifield, wi) with 10 points in 15 minutes of play.

leading the way for the dragons was allison swenson scoring 23 points on a 8-16 effort. The dragons move to 3-3 (0-1 nsic) on the season.

the concordia defense held the dragons to 33.3% (21-63) from the field and only 4-15 (26.7%) from three point range. The bears were able to turn 15 msum tournovers into a 10-0 advantage on fast break points and a 18-7 advantage on points off turnovers.

the golden bears will be back in action on december 7 when they host university of minnesota, crookston at 6 p.m. In nsic action.
