hillary johnson scored a concordia soccer record four goals as the bears (3-9-2, 1-2-0 nsic) cruised to a 5-0 win over minnesota crookston (4-10-0, 2-2-0 nsic) on the road sunday.
the bears got on the board early as freshman
sara sather scored her first career collegiate goal in the sixth minute off a header to give concordia a 1-0 lead.
then johnson went to work, putting three goals in the net before the intermission. She scored in the 27th minute off an assist of the season by
nikki hertel. In the 36th minute
kari janes got the ball to johnson for the third goal of the game for the bears and the second assist of the season for janes. Johnson would put an unassisted goal in the net just before half in the 44th minute.
in the second half, johnson scored the first goal of the season for the bears on a penalty kick in the 70th minute, to give her her school-record fourth goal. Her eight points ties the rachel flaherty's eight points in a game. It also gives her eight goals on the season.
for the game, the bears took 15 shots, with ten being on net and five finding the goal.
hannah turgerson stopped all 11 shots she faced to record her first shutout of the season and the fifth overall for csp. In all, the eagles fired 15 shots.
concordia will return home on saturday, oct. 13th, when the university of mary will visit concordia field at 1:00.
