mary slinger was everywhere on defense, piling up 35 digs to help the fourth-ranked golden bears (23-2, 12-1 nsic) dominate defensively in a sweep over bemidji state (8-11, 4-9 nsic). Concordia won by scores of 30-17, 30-17, 30-23 and had 89 digs compared to just 58 for bsu.
the golden bears limited bemidji state to a .071 hitting pct. For the match with just 26 kills in 140 attacks with 16 errors. It's the second time this season that slinger reached 30 digs, needing just three games on each occasion. Tonight, she averaged 11.7 per game.
meanwhile on the offensive end, concordia hit .243 with 59 kills in 152 attacks and 22 errors. The attack was led by sophomore
maggie mcnamara, who had 51 assists (17.0 per game), an impressive number considering the setter was also busy on defense with 20 digs and two blocks.
mcnamara set a well-balanced attack with four players posting double-figures and a fifth not far behind. Junior
maria steinhagen drilled a match-high 14 kills and led the team with a .370 hitting pct. In 27 attacks.
whitney meierotto, a senior, had 13 kills and 11 digs while
emily palkert had 12 and
sadie kessler finished with 11. Palkert also led the bears with six blocks in the match.
bemidji state didn't have an offensive threat above the six kills that brittney burns and heather sampson posted. Alicia beaman had bsu's only double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs.
concordia will put their eight match winning streak to the test when they hit the road for a pair of challenging matches this weekend. On friday, they are at #7 southwest minnesota state before a saturday match at wayne state.
