Bears fall to South Dakota in double overtime

Concordia university (1-1) hung with south dakota (1-0-1) into double-overtime despite being outshot 29-6 and 11-3 on the net. But the coyotes came up with the game-winner just 57 seconds into double ot to sink the golden bears.

the cu defense played well in the opening half, holding usd to five shots and just one coming on goal. But the offense wasn't there as the bears managed just one shot that sailed wide. The coyotes also held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

the second half saw usd put even more pressure on the golden bears defense, but cu held strong as the squad saved all six shots on goal while facing a firestorm of 19 total shots, many of them being just inches high, wide or off the post. The bears managed to fire three shots on the net and five total shots with a pair of decent scoring opportunities late, but came up short.

sophomore keyton wheelock was solid against her former team, shutting usd out for over 67 minutes with five saves. But wheelock was forced to leave early due to injury. Sophomore hannah turgerson relieved wheelock and was solid in the face of the tough coyote offensive attack. Turgerson allowed the game-winner, taking the loss as she falls to 1-1 in the net.

Johnson's aggressive play in the second half gave concordia some life as she had solid scoring opportunities. Senior rachel vitense and freshman katie johnson accounted for the other two concordia shots, both coming on the net.
