Bears cruise past Mavericks in three

#7 concordia university (26-2) extended their winning streak to ten matches with a three game sweep (30-17, 22, 21) at minnesota state (14-10) on tuesday evening at bresnan arena in the taylor center in mankato, minn.

the bears trailed in the first game 7-3 but went on a dominant 23-10 run to close out the first game. From there, cu never looked back as they didn't trail again in the match, closing out the mavericks in just over an hour.

three bears reached double-digit kills led by senior jessica lucia's (left) double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Lucia hit .333 in 30 attacks with just three errors. Senior kelsey kyro (right) also logged 13 kills while hitting a match-high .435 in 23 attacks with three errors. Kyro also posted four block assists. Junior monica mcnamara was the third bear in double-figures with 12 kills while hitting .321 in 28 attacks.

the bears hit .309 as a team behind freshman setter maggie mcnamara's setting. She posted 44 assists and added five digs and three block assists to her performance.

the defense, which held msu to a .126 attack pct. For the match including a match-low .000 in game one, was led by senior megan graham's (right) 16 digs. Graham was joined by three other bears in double-figures as senior ashley olson piled up 13 while lucia and freshman mary slinger each recorded 10.

the bears doubled up on the mavs in blocks with a 6-3 margin and held a 60-50 dig advantage. Cu posted 21 kills with just three errors while hitting a match-best .409 in the third game.

concordia puts their ten match winning streak to the test in the next week as they face ranked opponents in each of their next three matches, starting with #24 wayne state and #21 sw minnesota state this friday and saturday evening in nsic action. Next tuesday the bears entertain a rematch with #5 minnesota duluth. All three matches will be played at the gangelhoff center.
