Bears fall to Mustangs in double overtime

Concordia university (7-10-1, 5-3 nsic) dropped a tough road loss at sw minnesota state by a 2-1 final score in double-overtime on sunday afternoon in marshall, minn.

the bears, who have been outshot nearly all season long, finally dominated at the net with a 13-7 shot on goal advantage while firing 21 total shots to smsu's 18. Junior hillary johnson led the offensive attack as she drilled 15 shots, eight coming on the net but was unable to beat emily barnes, the mustang goaltender.

in a game that was scoreless for the first 73 minutes, the mustangs got on the scoreboard first when lisa fleming scored from joelle dean at the 73:45 mark.

but the mustangs finally scored in the second overtime after each team managed two shots apiece in the two overtimes.

concordia responded quickly as sam voeller scored for the second consecutive day at 76:41 on a pass from h.johnson. It was voeller's fourth goal of the season and h.johnson's second assist.

sophomore goaltender hannah turgerson is charged with the loss as she played the entire game with five saves facing seven shots.

concordia, who falls to 5-3 in nsic play, returns to the field next weekend for their final two regular season contests - both at home. On friday, oct. 20 the bears host sioux falls at 3:00 in non-conference action before playing host to msu moorhead on saturday, oct. 21 at 3:00 in their final northern sun contest.
