the concordia women used a 22-2 second half run to cruise to a 83-43 win for their second nsic win in two days. The bears had all 12 players dressed saturday night score at least two points, led by sophomore amanda behnke (left) and senior ashley smith.
behnke scored 19 points on eight of nine shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds. Smith chipped in with 15 points, seven rebounds three assists and three steals. Freshman candace olstad (right) led the golden bears with 10 rebounds and was one point away from her first double-double of the year. Sophomore katie laviolette reached a career high dishing out 10 assists.
the bears took a 30-15 lead going into halftime thanks to stellar defense holding the eagles to 15 points on 21% shooting and forcing 12 turnovers in the first half. The bears were dominant on the glass out rebounding the eagles 27 to 18 at the break.
concordia took control in the second half by shooting 63% and forcing another 13 crookston turnovers. Smith scored nine points during the 22-2 run that put the game out of reach. Concordia also held a 46-34 edge on the boards while forcing 25 eagle turnovers.
um-crookston was led by senior guard karna plaine who scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Junior forward kari score scored her 1,000 career point on a three point shot to take a 3-2 lead.
with the win, the bears imprve to 9-4 (2-0 nsic) whie um-crookston falls to 4-11 (1-1 nsic). The golden bears will travel to southwest minnesota state to take on the mustangs at 6:00pm friday january 13.
