Concordia-St. Paul (21-7, 10-2 NSIC) earned a sweep of NSIC rival Southwest Minnesota State (15-16, 9-7 NSIC) in conference action at Bob Barnes Field, taking the first game 2-1 and game two 7-5.
In the first game, the Bears rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chris Duda opened the inning with a single. With one out, the Bears got three straight singles from Bobby Meier, Tony Boxwell, and Mason Reinhart. Duda and Meier both scored in the inning.
Jacob Campion pitched an 8-hit complete game allowing only one run. For the game, the Bears had six hits.
In game two, the Bears got on the board with a run in the first inning. With Quarberg on first and Meier on second, Tony Boxwell singled up the middle to score Quarberg. The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning, when the Bears opened up the game with six runs on only three singles. They were aided by the Southwest Minnesota State pitching staff, who walked three batters and hit Duda with a pitch. There was also a SMSU error in the inning.
The Mustangs made the game interesting in the seventh inning, scoring four runs and leaving the bases loaded to end the game.
Eric Utoft earned the win for the Bears to improve to 7-0 on the season, and Rob Maslowski got his first save of the year.
Concordia and Southwest Minnesota State will play each other in double-header action again on Sunday, with play beginning at 12:00.
