The Concordia baseball team improved to 3-1 in the NSIC with a sweep of Bemidji State in their first home action of the season. CSP won the first game 6-4 and the second game 14-5.
In game one, Erik Quarberg broke a 3-3 time in the fourth inning with a three-run home run over the center field fence. The Bears opened their scoring in the first inning when Chris Duda tripled with one out and later scored on a fielder's choice. Quarberg scored on a bases-loaded walk after reaching when hit by a pitch to give the Bears a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
For the game, the Bears scored six runs on four hits and five walks. Jacob Campion pitched a solid seven innings, giving up four runs (only one earned) on six hits and striking out none.
In game two, the Bears blew open a 7-5 lead with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cruise to a 14-5 win. Bobby Meier went 3-4 with five RBIs, including a double and a home run. Jon Schemmel went 4-5 with a home run and scored three runs.
For the game, the Bears scored 14 runs on 16 hits and had six extra base hits. Eric Utoft improves to 4-0 with the win, allowing five runs and seven hits. Brian Bach earned a save, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up two hits and no runs.
The Bears will square off with the Beavers on Sunday at 12:00 in NSIC action.
