Junior guard Nakia Carlisle hit the game-winning shot with just :05 remaining in overtime to propel the Golden Bears (18-6, 8-3 NSIC) to a 69-67 overtime victory over Wayne State (17-9, 5-6 NSIC) on Friday night in Wayne, Neb. The Wildcats forced overtime after trailing by 14 points in the second half.
Carlisle, who scored the last six points in overtime for CU, led all scorers with 20 points in 25 minutes off the bench, shooting 8-15 from the field and 3-3 at the line.
Senior guard Kayla Christensen was the only other Bear in double-figures, as she poured in 17 points on 6-11 shooting, 2-3 from three-point range, and 3-5 at the foul line. Senior forwards Heidi Gill and Carly Christensen led the rebounding effort with seven apiece.
Aside from Carlisle and K. Christensen, there was only one other CU player who shot better than 28 percent from the field (Lindsey Williams, 2-2, five points). As a team, Concordia shot just 34.8 percent from the field, but they were 3-5 in overtime to secure the win. From three-point territory, the Bears shot only 22.2 percent but still managed to fire up 18 attempts, connecting on just four.
The win for Concordia-St. Paul puts them in sole possession of second place, and they keep pace with conference-leading MSU Moorhead, who defeated Minnesota Crookston in Moorhead, Minn. in other NSIC action.
The Bears return to the floor Saturday night to take on SW Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn.
