Wolves hand Bears heartbreaking loss to end season

The Concordia University women's soccer team (5-13-2, 4-8-2 NSIC) dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision on the road in the first round of the NSIC Tournament to Northern State University (13-5-2, 7-5-2 NSIC) on Tuesday afternoon at Jerde Field in Aberdeen, S.D.

The Wolves' only goal was scored when an NSU centering pass snuck behind CU goalkeeper Hannah Turgerson right in front of the net. The ball was then deflected into the net by the Golden Bear defense.

The Golden Bears couldn't muster much of an offensive attack, however. The wolves held an 11-2 edge in shots on goal while firing 21 total shots to Concordia's seven.

Turgerson, a freshman playing in her first collegiate postseason contest, played the entire game while recording ten saves.

Senior Lyndsey Hartleben, who played in her final game as a Golden Bear, fired one of the two shots on goal, while freshman Casandra Rikkola fired the other shot on net. Emily Grannes led the team with three total shots, none on goal.

The loss for the Golden Bears puts an end to their first season under Bob Usselman, while the Wolves advance to the NSIC Tournament semifinals, to be played at the highest remaining seed this weekend. Foe more information on the NSIC Soccer Tournament, visit www.northernsun.org
