Concordia University finished out their regular-season finale with a 71-61 win over MSU Moorhead. This game marked the final regular-season home game for three seniors on the team: Stephanie Hodson, Jill Kalvik, and Carrie Schierschmidt.
The first half was hard fought, with neither team being able to grab a lead of more than three points throughout the first 15 minutes of the game. Defense was strong on both ends of the court, as Concordia shot 36% and MSU Moorhead shot 27% from the field. The Bears outscored the Dragons 12-0 on the fast break points in the half and led 27-21 at the break.
Concordia broke out of the second-half gate with a 10-4 run that ran their lead to 12 at 37-25. Both teams brought their running shoes in the second half, as the action was fast paced up and down the court. MSU Moorhead tried to made a run late the 2nd half and came as close as 6 points when the score was 59-53 at the 2:49 mark. Kayla Christensen hit a huge 3-pointer with 2:20 left in the game to push the lead to 9, and the Bears held on for the 71-61 win.
The Bears had three players in double figures, led by Kayla Christensen with 20, shooting 8-17 from the field and 3-6 from behind the arc. Carly Christensen added 14 points and 8 rebounds on 6-10 shooting. Jennifer Pozzani had a big night, netting 15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Desirae Jones also added 5 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds to help the Bears in the win.
Concordia will host Southwest Minnesota State in the first-round game in the NSIC Tournament this Wednesday at the Gangelhoff Center.
