The Golden Bears (10-11, 4-3 NSIC) took on Bemidji State (11-10, 3-4 NSIC) in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. In their first-ever conference tournament home game, the Bears were defeated 3-0 on a cold, windy afternoon.
The Bears had the first scoring opportunity, as senior
Angie Rockney blasted a shot just under the crossbar, but it was deflected straight up and off the front of the post by Beaver goalkeeper Kari Torgerson.
Bemidji State capitalized on Torgerson's jump-save, scoring in the third minute as Ashley Lehmeier dribble through the Concordia defense to put the Beavers on top, 1-0.
That goal set the tone for BSU, who scored their other first half goal in the 22nd minute before putting in their third goal in the 70th minute.
Rockney ended the game with a game-high seven shots, four on goal for the Bears, who were outshot 14-12, while allowing nine shots on goal to their four.
Lehmeier finished the contest with a goal and an assist for the Beavers.
The Beavers advance to take on either no. 1 Winona State Saturday at noon at the University of Minnesota's Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Field while no. 3 Northern State will play no. 2 SW Minnesota State in the NSIC Tournament semifinals.
