Bears off to best start in history, now 24-1 with win over SMSU

No. 4 Concordia University (24-1, 11-0 NSIC) swept Southwest Minnesota State (18-7, 8-4 NSIC) in three games, 30-20, 30-25, 30-15 to jump out to their best start in school history.

Senior Joy Wubben led the attack with 14 kills while hitting .591 with four total blocks. Junior Valerie Olson chipped in with 11 kills while freshman Jessica Lucia added nine kills and seven digs. Junior setter Cailin Terhaar had 37 set assists for the Bears.

For the game, CSP had 46 kills to SMSU's 36 while out-hitting the Mustangs .364 to .142. The Bears also used a superior defense to dispatch of the Mustangs, edging them in blocks 7 to 5 while out-digging them 44 to 28.

The Bears 24-1 start on the season surpassed their start from a year ago when they jumped out to a 23-1 start before falling to Minnesota Duluth in four games at home on Halloween.

Concordia volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 2 as they host the MSU Moorhead Dragons in a battle of the top two teams in the Northern Sun. The Dragons will enter Tuesday's competition with a record of 9-2 in conference play and 22-3 overall. They are currently ranked no. 15 in the nation and no. 3 in the North Central Region.
