MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Concordia-St. Paul women's track and field team finished seventh while the men's team finished ninth in the MIAA vs NSIC Showdown on the campus of Northwest Missouri State this weekend.
On the women's side, the multi-event athletes once again provided a big chunk of the points as
Kalle Burney and
Erica Young combined to have a hand in 18 of the team's 32.5 points over the three-day meet.
On Thursday and Friday, Burney picked up a win and 10 points in the heptathlon with a PR mark of 4600 points. The highlight came in the high jump as she broke the outdoor school record by clearing 5'3.75" to finish first in the second of the seven events. Burney finished fourth or better in all but one event, including a second win in the 800 meter dash. She also helped add a point in the 4x400 meter relay.
Young added five more points in the heptathlon with a PR of her own as she took fourth with 4206 points. She took second in the long jump as well as third in the 200 meter dash, javelin throw and 800 meter dash. In addition, she helped the 4x100 meter relay team grab a pair of points with a seventh place result.
It was a successful weekend across the board in the high jump as
Gretchen Feilen matched her outdoor PR mark of 5'3.00" set last weekend to earn 5.5 points in a tie for third in the event.
Benjamin Allen put in another solid effort in the 5000 meter run for the men as he picked up a team-best 6 points by placing third with a time of 15:55.23.
Tyler Naumowicz followed close behind with four points in the 400 meter hurdles while also assisting in scoring a point in the 4x400 meter relay. Naumowicz took fifth in the 400 meter hurdles while the 4x400 meter team took ninth.
Jonathan Johnson also took part in a pair of successful events as he took sixth in the long jump to go along with a sixth place finish in the 4x100 meter relay for a total of six points. Johnson cleared 21'10.25" in the long jump while the 4x100 meter relay finished in 43.32 seconds.
The Golden Bears are back in action in the Jim Duncan Invitational on the campus of Drake next Friday and Saturday.
