MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears men's and women's track and field teams' day at the Ted Nelson Classic on the campus of Minnesota State featured a total of 18 top-10 finishes, including a pair of wins on the women's side.
Erica Young and
Hannah Gustafson each wrapped up wins in their respective events to cap off the afternoon as Young won the 600 meter run and Gustafson won the shot put. Young's performance was especially impressive as she broke the school record in the event, surpassing Amanda Mueller's mark of 1:38.48 set back in 2004,
Young edged out MSU's Bobbi Patrick by 0.11 seconds as she took home first with a time of 1:38.01 in an event featuring a deep field of conference opponents.
Gustafson beat Upper Iowa's Brinn Grunder with a distance of 40'5", surpassing her mark by an inch while also pacing a strong group.
Fellow thrower
Anna Ripke also had a productive day by taking fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 48'11" as well as 11
th in the shot put with a distance of 34'6.25".
Rounding out the four top-5 finishes for the women,
Marianna Kramer grabbed a fifth place finish in the pole vault. Kramer cleared 11'2.25" to finish inside the top-5.
Benjamin Allen was the top finisher for the men as he took fourth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:34.98. His time was just over four seconds off the top mark in the event.
Caleb Troe gave the Golden Bears another solid distance runner with a seventh place finish in the mile and an 11
th place finish in the 3000 meter run. Troe finished the mile in 4:26.26 and the 3000m in 8:52.89.
In the field events,
Marcus Gustaveson provided a bright spot as he took fifth in the shot put with a distance of 45'11.75".
The team is back in action next Friday as they head to the UST Invite while the multi-athletes look to get the team off to a solid start at the NSIC Multi-Event Championships on Sunday and Monday in Mankato.
