Golden Bears collect 24 top-10 finishes at the U of M

Men grab 11 and women pick up 13 in split weekend

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Concordia Golden Bears men's and women's track and field teams put up a solid weekend on the campus of the University of Minnesota in their final prep for next weekend's NSIC Championships in Mankato.

The men's side opened up the action at University Fieldhouse on Friday as they came home with a haul of 11 finishes inside the top-10 on the day. It was a fairly balanced effort as the top finishes were fairly evenly distributed between short/mid distance, long distance and in the field events.

The top finisher for the Golden Bears was Antony Odera as he took third in the long jump. His distance of 22'5.75" put him just an inch and a half out of second and six inches behind first in the event.

Tyler Naumowicz joined Odera as a top-5 finisher as he wrapped up fifth in the 60 meter hurdles. Naumowicz turned it on in the finals as he shaved off 0.15 seconds to move up from eighth in the prelims to fifth in the finals with a time of 8.73 seconds.

Benjamin Allen followed close behind as he continued his solid season with a sixth place result in the 800 meter run. Allen finished in 1:58.28 to put him a slim 0.09 seconds out of the top-5.

Marcus Gustaveson provided the team with another solid finish in the shot put as he registered in at 48'0" to finish in seventh place.

Next week will be an important one for the Golden Bears as they make one final trip down to Mankato in the indoor season for the NSIC Championships. Competition is set to take place on Friday and Saturday.

The women made the trek over to University Fieldhouse on Saturday and improved on the men's total as they collected 13 top-10 finishes on the day, including four in the top-5.

Gretchen Feilen took advantage of the final tune-up before the conference championships as she finished in the top-5 in both the high jump and pole vault. The only athletes to finish ahead of Feilen's 12'2.00" in the pole vault were a pair of athletes from the University of Minnesota while the three finishers ahead of her 5'3.00" in the high jump were also Gophers.

Gloria Williams chipped in another solid finish as she took fourth in the 200 meter dash. Williams finished with a time of 26.36 seconds, putting her 0.69 second behind the leader.

Wakpor Ighovojah finished fifth in her event as her time of 9.41 in the finals of the 60 meter hurdles put her just outside the top three.

Hannah Gustafson also added a sixth place finish in the shot put while Marianna Kramer took sixth in the pole vault.
