Feilen's big day highlights busy Friday for CSP

Troe, Holmes and Allen also break school records on impressive day

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Concordia-St. Paul track and field teams had a productive day as athletes competed in both the SDSU DII Invite and the UST Invite on Friday afternoon. Gretchen Feilen and Kalle Burney once again broke the high jump record at the UST Invite while Caleb Troe and Peyton Holmes broke the school record in the 5000 meter run and Benjamin Allen broke the mile record in the SDSU DII Invite.

Feilen and Burney continued their impressive run with a 1-2 finish in the UST Invite in the high jump as they shattered their record set last weekend by a full two inches, clearing 5'5.25" to do so. The duo wasn't done there are Feilen made it a pair of wins for her as she also won the pole vault by over a foot with a height of 11'7.75" while Burney took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 33'10.00". Both Feilen and Burney hit NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the high jump while Feilen also hit a provo in the pole vault.

In the UST Invite, Erika Shady added a win in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.01 seconds while Wakpor Ighovojah took third in the 60 meter hurdles, and Marianna Kramer and Teghan Norman took second and fourth in the pole vault, respectively to round out the top-5 performances there.

Marshall Jeppeson and Kyle Blom were the lone competitors on the men's side at St. Thomas as Jeppeson took sixth in the pole vault and Blom took seventh in the high jump.

While that was going on in St. Paul, much of the rest of the team crossed the border into South Dakota for the SDSU DII Invite on the campus of South Dakota State University as records fell there as well.

The group of men's distance runners shined on the day as three different athletes managed to surpass school records in a pair of events.

Caleb Troe took fifth in the 5k with a time of 15:28.46 to set the CSP record in the event while Peyton Holmes also surpassed the record set back in 2002 by Marcus Breitbarth. Holmes finished in 15:32.21 as both finished better than three seconds faster than Breitbarth's mark of 15:35.6.

Not to be outdone, Benjamin Allen managed to edge Kyle Warren's mile record of 4:25.25 set back in 2006 by less than a second with a time of 4:24.51 to take seventh in the event.

Antony Odera added an impressive second place finish in the triple jump while Tyler Hudson (1000m) and Tyler Naumowicz (60m hurdle prelims) also finished inside the top-5 to make it four top-5 finishes for the men at SDSU.

On the women's side at SDSU, Gloria Williams was a top finisher with a second place finish in the 60 meter dash. Williams finished second in the prelims with a time of 7.91 seconds before taking second in the finals with a time of 7.89 seconds.

Jordan Gray added another top-5 finish as she took home fourth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:11.67.

CSP is back in action at the MSU Open & Multis next Friday as they make their return to Minnesota State.
