ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia St. Paul Rocket League team (0-2) fell short against Park on Monday night, losing the series three games to one in this week's NACE Rocket League Championship Series matchup.
The Golden Bears fell down 0-2 in the series prior to winning their first game of the season; a thriller in overtime. CSP couldn't carry on the momentum from the overtime victory and were handled by the Pirates in game four to end the series.
David Voelker filled the stat sheets for CSP, leading the team with three goals and recording 14 saves throughout the contest. Colin Warren scored his career high with three goals on just six shots and Phung Khang recorded two goals while tallying seven saves.
The Pirates established the first lead of the night, scoring with 4:36 to go in game one. They would score once more en route to a 2-0 victory.
Park once again established a 2-0 lead in game two. Colin Warren answered by scoring the first Concordia goal of the night with 0:09 remaining. The Golden Bears couldn't score again in the final seconds, dropping game two by a score of 2-1.
With their backs against the wall, the Golden Bears won a thrilling game three in overtime. They established their first lead of the night following a goal by Warren with 4:41 on the clock. Park matched the high pace of the game, scoring two goals and taking a 2-1 lead with 4:13 remaining. The Bears battled back to take a 3-2 lead on a David Voelker score with 3:19 remaining. Back-and-forth scoring ensued as the Pirates matched each Golden Bear score leading to a 5-5 tie at the end of regulation. Overtime began with great defense until Phung Khang secured the CSP victory with a goal 2:00 into the overtime period. The Golden Bears won 6-5.
Park began game three on a mission, establishing a quick 3-0 lead with 3:49 to play. Voelker scored his final goal of the night, giving the Bears hope trailing 3-1 with 3:16 remaining. The Pirates responded by scoring four consecutive goals to end the night with a 7-1 victory.
The Golden Bears Rocket League team will look to right the ship next week as they take on Montana on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
