Concordia-St. Paul’s career receiving leader, Tyrone Ruffin, BBA ’09, MA ’12, was a consistent weapon in his four years, and still holds the program record with 2,930 receiving yards and 33 receiving touchdowns while ranking second with 188 catches.

A two-time All-NSIC pick and an All-Region selection, Ruffin ranked eighth or better in the NSIC in receiving yards per game in each of his four seasons on campus, tallying at least five touchdowns in each.

The Wayzata High School grad stepped in immediately and played a major role in the squad reaching the Mineral Water Bowl in his freshman campaign in 2005, capturing the program’s second NSIC Championship in a three year stretch. The team matched a program record with nine wins while it finished 6-1 in league play. Ruffin was named the NSIC Newcomer of the Year after finishing with 34 catches for 518 yards receiving and five scores, finishing eighth in the league in receiving yards per game and 13th in receptions per game.

The wideout upped his output as a sophomore as he finished with 54 catches for 749 yards and seven touchdowns to earn his first All-NSIC honors as a Second Team pick.

Ruffin put up his best statistical season as a junior in 2007, hauling in 11 touchdowns, good for third in the NSIC, and 859 yards on 54 receptions. His efforts earned him his first of two consecutive CU Bear of the Year awards.

Ruffin’s senior season earned regional recognition as he was named to the Daktronics All-Region Second Team in addition to All-NSIC South Second Team following another impressive campaign. His 73.1 yards per game ranked fourth in the league while his 10 touchdowns ranked third. Overall, he collected 46 catches for 804 yards on the year.

After receiving a degree in business administration in 2009, Ruffin remained with the program as a graduate assistant while earning a master’s degree in organizational management. During his run as a graduate assistant coach, the Golden Bears made a return trip to the Mineral Water Bowl as they finished the 2010 season with an 8-4 record and a 5-win improvement over the previous year.

Since 2011, Ruffin has worked as a sales professional in the pharmaceutical industry. He has been involved in different roles as a sales representative, working closely with large health care systems, helping them improve quality in care for their patients. Ruffin currently represents products for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where he has twice won the President’s Club award.

Ruffin resides in Golden Valley, Minnesota with his wife, Kelsey (Judge), BA ’11.
