Mike Bailey was a dominant force on Concordia’s first college football team and was a two-time Lutheran All-American (1969, 1970). He helped the Comets to a 4-4 record in their first year as a program in 1969, and a 6-2 record in 1970. In two seasons, Bailey rushed for 1,652 yards and 25 touchdowns, averaging over 100 yards on the ground per game. He was inducted into Concordia’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994 and was the Concordia Athlete of the Year, a two-time team captain and team MVP.

He also competed in the shot put, discus, javelin, 100, and 4x100 relay in track & field and held the school record in the shot and discus. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 1971.
