A two-time All-American, Kelsey Kyro Peel was an instrumental piece of Concordia volleyball’s early dominance in the University’s Division II transition. A freshman reserve on CSP’s first NCAA Tournament run, Kyro and the Golden Bears finished as Division II national runner-up during her first year on campus.
The early team success became routine for Kyro and the Golden Bears throughout the rest of her career and by her sophomore year she was a fixture in the lineup. Throughout her four years, Concordia volleyball stormed through the competition with a cumulative 130-15 overall record, a 61-1 record in NSIC play with four NSIC regular season and three NSIC Tournament championships and the first 51 of a 56 match conference winning streak that stretched into the year after her career came to a close.
Beyond that, the squad reached at least the NCAA Central Region Championship match (Sweet Sixteen) all four years, with a pair of region crowns, two trips to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament (Elite Eight) with one national runner-up finish.
An explosive athlete from Minneapolis South High School, Kyro Peel was among the most efficient and powerful middle hitters both offensively and as a shutdown defender at the net. She still ranks in the top-5 in CSP volleyball history in career blocks per set (1.14, 3rd), attack percentage (.346) and total blocks (428) while her 1,542.0 career points ranks seventh and she’s 10th on the program’s all-time kills list with 1,281.
As a senior, she led the league and ranked 11th nationally with a .382 hitting percentage while producing a career-high 4.34 kills per set which was fourth in the Northern Sun and ranked 35th nationally.
During her junior campaign, Kyro Peel swung at a league leading .360 percentage to rank 30th in the country, ranked sixth in the league with 3.70 kills per set and was seventh in the league in blocks.
Between the two nationally-prominent individual seasons Kyro posted, she would become a two-time All-Region and All-Conference performer while earning All-America Third Team honors as a junior and First Team honors as a senior. She was also a big-time performer in the playoffs, earning NCAA All-Tournament Team honors during each of the two regional runs.
A communication studies major, Kyro Peel was a CoSIDA (now named Google Cloud) Academic All-America Third Team selection which set the stage for a career in public relations. During the same year as Kyro Peel’s Academic All-America honor, the squad combined for the top-ranked cumulative team GPA in the country (3.69) among Division II volleyball programs.
She is married to CSP alum Joey Peel, a New York native who competed on the basketball team. The couple resides in Manhattan where Kyro Peel has established her PR career in New York City, first at SoulCycle where she was the PR and marketing manager.
She is now self-employed and founder of 5A Public Relations, a boutique PR agency that focuses on start-ups in the fitness and wellness industry. Kelsey and Joey are expecting twins this September.
