He is currently a parish pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in El Paso, Texas and has previously served as district mission executive and district president prior to his current calling.

Athletically at Concordia, Howard played in the first “dedicatory” college basketball game in the new Lutheran Memorial Center (LMC) in the fall of 1953 and earned letters playing college basketball.

He was also a member of the Concordia Junior College Track Championship teams of 1955 and 1956, competing alongside former Concordia University President Dr. Robert Holst. Howard became a record holder at the Minnesota Junior College level in the high hurdles in 1956 at the J.C. Worthington Spring Track Meet.

A three sport athlete and leader, he was captain of the 1956 golf team and was runner-up (2nd) at the Minnesota Junior College Golf Championships in Rochester, Minn.

Howard resides in El Paso, Texas with his wife of 45 years, Marilyn. They have two children, Alycia and Kirk, and are blessed with six grandchildren.
