Golden Bears cruise to 74-56 win over Sioux Falls

CSP shot over 50.0% from the field for the first time all year to defeat USF in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Golden Bear women's basketball team (10-17, 7-14 NSIC) shot their way to a 74-56 win over Sioux Falls (14-11, 11-10 NSIC) on Friday night in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. CSP shot 51.7% from the field, which is their best percentage of the season and also shot 81.1% from the line, hitting nine of their 11 attempts.

Concordia is now 9-4 in their series history against the Cougars and has won three of their last four matchups, including the last two times facing Sioux Falls on the road. In their last matchup, the Cougars were the hot-shooting team, draining 51.8% of their shots, including hitting 50.0% of their three-point attempts. This time around, the roles were reversed, as CSP shot over 50.0% from the field, holding Sioux Falls to the lower percentage (43.9%).

Juniors Lindsay Dorr and Anna Schmitt continued their streak of being the top scorers for CSP, scoring 22 and 19 points, respectively. Both shot incredibly efficiently, as Dorr went 10-13 (76.9%) and Schmitt went 8-13 (61.5%), including going 2-3 from deep. Dorr also ended with ten rebounds, racking up her seventh double-double of the year and tied her career-high in blocks with four. With Friday's points, Schmitt moves into third in the CSP all-time scoring list, passing Angie Jacox (1990-1994) and Lisa Harfield (1999-2003), with 1,472 career points.

Six other Golden Bears scored in the contest, including four CSP players off the bench, outscoring Sioux Fall's bench 23-15. Junior Lexi Lee and freshman Sydney Weierke each ended with seven points apiece, which as a career-high mark for Weierke. Senior Haydn Becker and junior Kayla Miller both chipped in with five points and four assists each.

The Bears got off to a slow start, as they trailed the Cougars 11-6 at the first media timeout. From there, though, CSP rallied and went on to finish the quarter on a 16-5 run, including scoring the last nine points of the quarter, capped off by a Haydn Becker three with seven seconds left. Dorr was active from the start, scoring Concordia's first eight points in the contest. Schmitt added seven in the quarter and the Bears went into the second quarter leading 22-16. From here, the Bears would not look back, as they held onto the lead for the rest of the game.

CSP kept that first quarter momentum rolling into the second frame, outscoring the Cougars 17-9 throughout the quarter. Dorr and Schmitt each finished the half with 14 points apiece and Dorr led all rebounders at the half with seven. As a team, the Bears shot 56.7% from the field in the half, while holding their opponents to shooting only 36.7%.

The second half belonged to the Bears as well, as CSP led by double digits for the entirety of the half. Sioux Fall's Kaely Hummel got the Cougars on the board in the first possession of the third quarter, but Dorr answered with an and-one on the following possession to help the Bears keep their momentum. The Bears closed out the quarter on a 13-2 run, capped off by a last second three from Weierke (the first of her career), to lead 60-37 heading into the final ten minutes.

Concordia led by 20 for the majority of the fourth quarter, stretching their lead to 29 with five minutes left to play. Towards the end of the game, the Cougars went on a 13-2 run off their own, but the game was too far out of reach, and the Bears still went on to win by 18. Lee was the top scorer for the Bears in the final quarter, scoring all seven of her points throughout the final ten minutes.

Junior Jacey Huinker and sophomore Hummel were the leading scorers for Sioux Falls, ending with 12 and 11 points, respectively. The Bears held Mariah Szymanski, who scored 43 against CSP in their last matchup, to only eight points.

The Bears will finish off the regular season tomorrow afternoon, February 17th, at Southwest Minnesota State. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. Follow along live at cspbears.com/watch.
