ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Golden Bear women's basketball team (4-7, 1-4 NSIC) pulled out a close 63-58 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (1-9) on Monday evening at the Gangelhoff Center to head into the twelve day break on a high note.

This was the first time that these two teams have played each other, and it was a tight game from start to finish, as the score was tied seven times and the lead changed back and forth ten different times throughout the contest.

The Bears put together a solid team effort to pull out the win, as eight different players scored and three players ended in double digits. Junior Hannah Vidlund led all CSP scorers with 14 points, while also nabbing a career-high ten rebounds for her first career double-double. Center
Lindsay Dorr also had a strong performance, scoring 12 while tallying eight boards and junior
Kayla Miller did a little bit of everything for the Bears, scoring 11 while also registering four assists, two blocks, and two steals.

As a team the Bears held a slightly higher field goal percentage, connecting on 36.4% (20-55) from the floor, compared to the Sailfish's 33.8% (23-68). Palm Beach Atlantic posted better three-point and free-throw percentages, but the Bears found a way to go to the line more often, scoring 19 free points, compared the their opponent's nine. CSP also scored 19 points off the bench and despite losing the rebound battle, only gave up ten second chance points, which was the same that they were able to score on the offensive end.

In the first quarter, both teams traded baskets for the majority of the first ten minutes, as the quarter featured four ties and two lead changes. Vidlund hit a three to put the Bears up by three, but the Sailfish got it back within one at the quarter break, with the Bears leading 11-10.

The second quarter was similarly close, with each team answering, allowing neither team to go on a scoring run. At one point the Sailfish led by five, which was the biggest lead for either team in the first twenty minutes, but the Bears quickly responded, trailing by only two as first half time expired.

The Bears posted impressive shooting numbers in the third quarter, helping them outscore their opponents by seven during this frame. The team shot 50.0% (7-14) from the field, 60.0% (3-5) from three, and 100% (4-4) from the line. Vidlund and Miller hit back-to-back threes to end the quarter, helping the team lead 43-38 heading into the final ten minutes.

CSP entered the last quarter with a lead and refused to give it up the rest of the game. The Sailfish did not go away easily though, as they battled and got the game within one twice during the last minute of the game. The Bears held strong however, knocking down some crucial free-throws to go on to win 63-58.

The Sailfish were led by seniors Hannah Grim and Nkiru Anyagaligbo. Minnesota native, Grim, led all scorers with 19 points while also securing seven boards. Anyagaligbo compiled a double-double for Palm Beach Atlantic, scoring 16 while compiling a massive 17 boards.

The Bears now have a twelve day break before they return to conference play. They will take on #12 Northern State and MSU Moorhead on December 30
th and 31
st. The Saturday matchup against Northern will take place at 4 p.m. and on the following day, tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
