CSP claim the top spot for the 78th time

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After knocking off last week's #1 team in the country, Concordia-St. Paul moved into the top spot in the week nine AVCA Division II Coaches Poll, released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday.

For the second week in a row, the Golden Bears leaped past the previous week's #1 team as they jumped Lewis University last week and Southwest Minnesota State this week. The Mustangs dropped just one spot to #2. Concordia grabbed 40 of 48 first-place votes as they were one of three teams to receive a vote. Along with CSP and SMSU, Northern State ranks seventh, Minnesota Duluth ranks ninth, Winona State ranks 15th, Augustana ranks 16th, Wayne State ranks 22th, and Upper Iowa ranks 25th to give the NSIC eight schools inside the top-25.

Amazingly, Saturday's win against the Mustangs improved Concordia's all-time record against the top ranked team in the country to 12-0 as CSP has never lost to a team ranked #1.

The Golden Bears have now spent an incredible 78 weeks at #1 since they debuted there in the 2003 preseason poll. Since the 2007 season, CSP has ranked #1 at least once every season. In addition, Concordia has spent all but one week inside the top-5 since October 2012. The last time that CSP ranked outside the top-10 was back in 2003.
