MANKATO, Minn. – The Concordia-St. Paul men's and women's track and field teams opened up competition at the MSU Alumni Open on the campus of Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Bears sent part of the squad back down to Mankato for the second time in just over a month as both teams put up solid showings despite the limited number of athletes. The men wrapped up six finishes inside the top-5 while the women had 12 athletes take home top-10 finishes, including five in the top-5.
Caleb Troe put an exclamation point on the day with a win in the 3000 meter run as he just edged out teammate
Peyton Holmes by a minisule 0.23 seconds. Troe took home the top spot with a time of 9:01.81 while Holmes followed very close behind at 9:02.14.
Benjamin Allen chipped in a fourth place finish in the 1000 meter run while
Tyler Hudson added another fourth place result in the mile run as the distance men shined on the day. Allen finished off the 1000m in 2:35.42 while Hudson wrapped up the mile in 4:31.46.
Antony Odera joined Troe and Holmes with a top-3 finish as he cleared 21'10.75" in the long jump to take third in the event. Odera also finished 12
th in the 60 meter hurdles as well.
For the women,
Gretchen Feilen picked up where she left off in the opening meet as she registered a pair of finishes in the top-5. Feilen took fourth in the high jump with a height of 5'1" while she grabbed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 10'10".
Marianna Kramer matched Feilen in both events as she cleared the exact same height in both, taking sixth in the pole vault and seventh in the high jump.
Erica Young put up a solid result in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:00.42 to finish fourth while
Hannah Gustafson took fifth in the shot put with a distance of 40'2.75". Gustafson also took eighth in the weight throw as well.
The Golden Bears will return to action next weekend as they take the short trip over to the University of Minnesota next weekend to participate in the Minnesota Open.
